about
"Daddy's Shoes" is a simple song about how even as adults, we are all still just pretending to be grown up.
This song was recorded on 9/10/2011 in a recording session at Paul Langford's studio in Chicago (
paullangfordmusic.com) during a session originally intended to be a demo of five or songs. We were productive enough to go ahead and record a full album of songs.
lyrics
Pretending to be grown up again
Puttin’ on my daddy’s shoes
And walkin’ round the house
Sayin’ things like ‘momma, I’ll be home soon’
I put a belt in my blue jeans
And I button up my shirt wrong like I mean it
And I put on my daddy’s coat,
‘Cause that’s what grownups do
Get in my car it’s a cardboard box
Drive to the office, it’s a pile of rocks
I’m beginning to lose my socks
My daddy’s shoes are too large
Break for lunch with the little miss
She’s brought me, a ham and swiss
I lean over, to tell her this
You know, I hope it means a lot.
Pretending to be grown up again
Puttin’ on my daddy’s shoes
And walkin’ round the house
Sayin’ things like ‘momma, I’ll be home soon’
I put a belt in my blue jeans
And I button up my shirt wrong like I mean it
And I put on my daddy’s coat,
‘Cause that’s what grownups do
I crawl in the house on my hands and knees,
So people don’t see the car I don’t need
Grab a book, I’m learning to read
Hope it makes me wise someday
I remember, what my mommy said
‘Bout gettin’ up, and goin’ to bed
Try to see the page I’ve read
And what it all means.
Pretending to be grown up again
Puttin’ on my daddy’s shoes
And walkin’ round the house
Sayin’ things like ‘momma, I’ll be home soon’
I put a belt in my blue jeans
And I button up my shirt wrong like I mean it
And I put on my daddy’s coat,
‘Cause that’s what grownups do
