about

"Rough in the Diamond" is the oldest song on the album. A tune about times when things just don't work out the way they should.

This song was recorded on 9/10/2011 in a recording session at Paul Langford's studio in Chicago (paullangfordmusic.com) during a session originally intended to be a demo of five or songs. We were productive enough to go ahead and record a full album of songs.

lyrics

She walks along a beach
Walking her sorrows on a leash
Wandering, all along
She’s wondering, what went wrong
She’s looking, for the rough in the diamond
Looking for the glitter’s end
Did he not see, the look in her eyes
As he smiled, and he walked by
They’re looking, for the rough in the diamond

He always called her, “princess”
He never could get out lovely
Wandering up and down
He’s wondering, why she’s gone
He’s looking for the rough in the diamond
Looking for the glitter’s end
Were there any words to say
As she smiled and walked away
She never had a chance to say
They’re looking for the rough in the diamond

She’s carrying a memory with her
He’s trying to leave one behind
Getting this off of his mind
She’s flown away, that’s just like her
They’re looking for the rough in the diamond
Looking for the glitters end
Did he not see, the look in her eyes
As she smiled, and he walked by
They’re looking for the rough in the diamond
They’re looking for the rough in the diamond
