about
"Bury My Burden" was written in 2010. It is Stonewall's grunge influenced take on the "old man" or "end of the world" blues song. One of the darker songs on the album, it deals with death and entropy.
This song was recorded on 9/10/2011 in a recording session at Paul Langford's studio in Chicago (
paullangfordmusic.com) during a session originally intended to be a demo of five or songs. We were productive enough to go ahead and record a full album of songs.
lyrics
earth folds, into sand, I quake,
mountains, fall into the sea, my grace
breathless, I run and break, when I sing, be my voice
Come away, come away, come away
bury my burden, and my body will decay
dirt under my fingers, tell my bonnie, here I lay
Come away, come away, come away
Pretty lady, turn your eye, I quake
Is it death that knows you by name, by whose grace you came
She said, sir I know kingdoms fall, paint the colors of my lie
Come away, come away, come away
bury my burden, and my body will decay
dirt under my fingers, tell my bonnie, here I lay
Come away, come away, come away
Time is a thief, but I love him so dearly,
Madness my dream, loved so clearly
In my defense, I leave a little further on
Lay down in the trench, I leave, a little further on
bury my burden, and my body will decay
dirt under my fingers, tell my bonnie, here I lay
Come away, come away, come away
